FORT BEND COUNTY
DISPUTE RESOLUTION CENTER
The Fort Bend County Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) is an independent, nonprofit organization that provides and promotes accessible, high-quality dispute resolution services for all people in Fort Bend County and all surrounding areas. The DRC provides effective, cost-saving Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services to the Courts, and Individual Citizens of Fort Bend and surrounding counties.
PROGRAMS
The DRC currently sponsors three community programs. The DRC accepts mediation cases submitted by the Parties to a dispute, their Attorneys, or the Presiding Judge. Intake is conducted by DRC staff, then referred for volunteer mediation scheduling. Throughout this process, the DRC takes into consideration its own volunteer rotation system, applicable schedules, and the information regarding the type and complexity of issues provided on the confidential intake form.
The Community Mediation Program is designed for 1) disputes that occur between friends, neighbors and in business relationships which are not filed in court; 2) those who have filed suit in Justice Court and the amount in controversy is less than $10,000; or 3) appropriate matters referred by the Courts or another Community Agency.
The Litigation Mediation Program provides mediation to parties who have filed a civil suit in Justice of the Peace, County or District Court. Depending on the complexity of the legal issues, the volunteer mediators may also be attorneys. The amount in controversy may be no greater than $25,000.
The Family/Domestic Mediation Program issues include, but are not limited to, pre- and post-divorce conflict, such as separation issues, property and child-related matters. The parties’ combined gross household income may not exceed $90,000, with no extensive property or financial holdings, and no ongoing domestic violence or current substance abuse. By law, allegations of child abuse must be reported.
